Open Question: I live in Missouri landlord said we can move before lease is up do we still have to give 30 day notice?

We have a one year lease have never been late on rent but our landlord is not a nice person. He emailed me and said he will not renewing our lease whice is up in 5 months and we can move on or before the lease is up. Are we still required to give a 30 day notice and can he try and get the months lest of rent if we move early since he stated that we can and I do have a copy of this.
